I recall

flashed across my screen
macabre images frozen
like the last day of Pompeii
looking away from truths
at the madness of crowds
whistling nationalist anthems
through the cemetery
where we have mourned heroes
leading us to truths
which belong to all of us
even while the rabble
wishing us to grovel
beneath the truths
that belong only to them
seeing only a zero-sum-game
survival of the fittest
while fearing our evolution
will leave them behind
